Everyone must have been awed on hearing the name Chankaya who has etched his name with golden letters in the books of history and his teachings are still been followed everywhere. He is one of the intellectual thinker and political strategist that India will remember for the times to come. Chankya’s wisdom was essential in establishing and running the Maurya kingdom and giving a king like Chandragupta Maurya to the Ancient Indian land.
He was also good in political and war strategies, governance and various subjects like economics. There were many Arthasasthra’s before he wrote his own version of it, but still everyone tends to remember the one written by Chanakya. It is being considered as a expert book on politics, warfare, international realtionships and one that considers governance and strategy.
So what if we could get a glimpse of what were in Chankya’s mind and how he tends to interpret things to a man who is passionate and wishes to think. Radhakrishnan Pillai does the same thing I mentioned and we are in for an elaborate process of thinking which will deeply have an effect on us. The book cover is simple with an silhouette of Chankya. This is although mundane attracts us with its simplicity.
Radhakrishnan Pillai shows the way we can become better thinkers, to hone our skills, to solve problems using the philosophy of Aanvikshiki underlined in the Arthasathra that is written by Chankya. The language of the book is very simple and can be applied to the masses. It doesn’t tries to be preachy at any times and this is were the strength of the author lies in establishing contact with the readers without making this a mundane boring self help book. The book is laden with scriptures from Arthasasthra and its translations along with the interpretation of Chankya’s which makes this an exciting journey into the veteran thinker’s mind. The anecdotes and example help us understand even the unimaginable things easily. The book makes us wonder why we up to now didn’t think about the process of thinking and the things prescribed of critical thinking.
The introduction of the process of Aanvikshiki is done without much fan fare and assures us that this concept is simple to learn and not much complicated like its name. Aanvikshiki literally translates to the science of strategic thinking. The question the author had asked why nobody has taught us to think really lingered in my heart for many days. The thought that we were only taught to learn, play and not think made me wonder if Arthasasthra holds the key for thinkers. The author helps us get through these process by having six divisions.
The book with the help of Radhkrishnan Pillai’s idea with the ancient Aanvikshiki helps us reveal the process of thinking and open minds. This book is revelation in its own sort. The book is short 288 page read and will be very useful for person’s in management and others. Although other readers may find this book little boring due to its non fictitious conceptual nature.
