A new style of writing has been on the go these days. Books that have stories derived from other book or to say precisely books that are inspired or retold in a way that is suitable for the new generation readers. When it comes to mythology , I think Devdutt Pattanaik is a pioneer in telling mythological themes which can be compared with the daily activities and we can even say it as a daily mantra. His previous books has amazed me, his writing style and illustrations could well be received by all kinds of readers without any sense of boredom.
The cover design is as simple as ever Devdutt’s book.It is not that engaging but sure the name of the author will be compelling the readers to pick up the book from the stores. (Devdutt’s book always have a minimal cover design).
This book , The Leadership Sutra is derived from his previous book in this series called Business Sutra : A very Indian approach to management. I haven’t read that book and when i found a TED video based on this concept , I could get a glimpse of what the book has in store for us and how Devdutt would have conceived the ideas for writing this book. So how Business Sutra contributes to the leadership qualities in us and how it can be related to the mythology , or moreover a comparison of many mythological examples to the leadership part of business in an Indian way.
The author tries to show how leadership and power can shape a company in both positive and negative ways. Often the superiors and leaders compare themselves to lions and in the process fail to deliver the required results rather than dominate them and make the process a big disorder. The power vested with one make them a different one.
This book is not an moral teller but guides the reader to realize how power and leadership could be taken in a good way with the examples fetched from mythological connections , stories , symbols and rituals from Hinduism , Buddhism and Jainism.
Everyone can read this book who want to get a basic idea of how to positively, creatively and constructively use leadership to steer the power inside of them. I think the best from this book will be the illustrations , as every Devdutt book does. These illustrations add strength to the sutras which could be easily understandable.
The author also tries to have better examples which could be related to the present scenario. Totally the book is a collection of leadership qualities explained along with mythological examples connecting to the present generation of readers.
This book is ideal to readers who prefer mythology and business. This book has many useful thoughts and it is surely not a fast read. If you want to get the total essence of the book , grab the contents and relate with examples. (READ SLOWLY)
