Kissing Frogs for a While – Pavan Tarawade – Book Review

The title alone gives us a sneak peek of what we can expect from the short story which has around 136 pages. The author Pavan Tarawade is a blogger turned writer and has attempted a romantic short story to be his debut. Well, congratulations Pavan for entering into the writing world.

The book is about a girl who is the only child of her parents living in the economic capital of India, Mumbai. She is already devastated by the relationship breakup with her ex-lover Piyush and is trying hard to forget the past. She has a successful career, good friend, well-understanding parents but she is almost pushed into the late twenties which makes her life harder. She opts for registration in matrimonial site and decides to choose the Mr.Right of his life. The remaining story reveals the tale of how she meets various fellows and how fate twists her life with some unexpected events.

The book is too short and readers would finish it in a go. The author has tried to portray Ayesha, the protagonist as an audacious woman who isn’t afraid to tell her views to others, but she is flummoxed about choosing the man of her life. It’s the decisions we take that makes our life. She falls in between a battle of her mind and her heart. Her heart checks for the ex-lover but her mind due to the stress about her age and the pushing of friends and parents choose to opt for the matrimonial site.

The author has scripted Ayesha’s character well and it’s the only character that seems to stick with us till the end. He could have concentrated well on the others so that it would have been an endearing tale. The excitement which is with us at the inception of the book begins to fade after what the reader’s expectations fill the pages of the book with no thrills or twists. The mediocre events too don’t hold up to our minds and make the book bland.

But the best is the plot line which is an unusual one having a female protagonist who indulges herself in searching for the man of her life is something that I find out of the blue. So I would recommend this book for readers who expect a short paged book to wear off their boredom and to people who want to read unusual plot lines.
